Feltmaking is a skill that has sustained human communities for thousands of years and represents one of our oldest textile traditions. It is the process of using moisture and agitation to interlock animal fibers into a piece of dense, non-woven fabric (without any warp or weft). Most fabrics are woven or knitted, unlike felt. This immersive forest workshop invites you into a slow, sensory relationship with both plants and skin. We begin by gathering around a 5-gallon copper still, where fresh forest botanicals are set into an 8-hour steam distillation process. Through heat, water, and time, the plants release their aromatic waters—becoming a living hydrosol that will be collected at the end of the day. While the distillation continues, participants are guided through a nourishing forest facial ritual. You’ll learn foundational facial massage techniques, proper skincare application, and how to develop deeper skin awareness through gentle touch and presence.
