03 Jan Mending as Tending: Caring for Your Clothing
I am inspired to share the practice of mending as both a practical skill and a sacred tradition. For over a decade, I have been making and caring for handmade clothing designed to be cherished and repaired. Mending is more than fixing fabric—it is a practice of gratitude, stewardship, and presence, a way to honor the labor and materials that bring our clothing to life.
In this workshop, students will learn hands-on techniques like hand-stitching, patching, and simple repairs. We will also touch on the philosophy of caring for what we wear and its connection to the earth. Participants should bring at least one garment in need of repair or patching. If you have one of my garments, this is a wonderful opportunity to mend it or add a beautiful patch.
Mending as Tending: Caring for Your Clothing will be taught by Mira Blackman.
