Kumu Anna Liza

Kumu Anna Liza Kalauokekupukupu Abuan-McKeon is a dedicated teacher with over 20 years of experience, primarily in hula dancing and, more recently, in herbalism and plant medicine. She began her dance journey with “Hula Halau He Inoa No Ipu Lei Manu” under Denise Bigelow and expanded her Polynesian arts training with Tahitian drumming from Mapuhi Tuku Tekurio and Samoan fire knife dancing from Mel Liufau of Nonosina.
Her commitment to authenticity led her to train in Hawaiʻi under hula master Loea Kawaikapuokalani Frank Hewett, who named her Kumu Hula Kalauokekupukupu after her uniki (graduation). Kumu Anna Liza now teaches traditional hula in her halau (schools) in San Bernardino County, Topanga, and Crestline, emphasizing the preservation of Hawaiian culture.
In addition to hula, she has studied herbalism under Sage L. Maurer and Marysia Miernowska, focusing on sacred plant medicine and the Wise Woman Tradition. Kumu Anna Liza continues to share the teachings of her elders, blending Hawaiian artistry, history, and plant wisdom to enrich and inspire her students.
