02 Jan Eco Printing with Leaves + Flowers
My workshops are an invitation to learn the foundations of plant dye alchemy. Plant dyeing is the oldest way of capturing color on textiles and is used among many different cultures. In class, you’ll be able to witness the alchemical beauty of transforming undyed organic fibers into living color pieces. We will discuss: mordants, fibers, plants to grow, plants to identify in your back yard, sustainability, sourcing, proper disposal, water, modifiers and resists.
You’ll be guided through the step by step process of composing leaves and flowers over fiber and bundling to achieve a unique printed piece. We can achieve prints that look like earthen floor camo, intentional mandalas or make hand cut shapes. All materials included.
Each student will experiment and leave with their own hand dyed piece(s); steeped in plant extracts, barks, tannins, flowers, leaves and the essence of Spirit Weavers 2026.
