29 Dec Basket Weaving
Basket weaving is one of humanity’s oldest living arts, an intimate meeting of land, hand, and culture.
Across the world, baskets have been created in relationship with seasonal rhythms, local plants, and communal life, serving practical needs while also carrying deep spiritual, cultural, and artistic meaning.
Together, we will embark on a meaningful journey of remembering.
We will learn two foundational techniques and styles, the melon basket and a warp-and-weft basket woven with reed. As our hands work, we will weave connection through shared stories, song, and quiet presence, allowing the day to deepen beyond skill-building into connection, and belonging.
This is a hands-on, full-day class. Participants will leave with either one medium-to-large reed basket or potentially two smaller baskets, as well as the skills and confidence to ethically gather wild materials, learn your own landscapes, and continue weaving for years to come.
Kayla Alexander will be sharing Basket Weaving.
