Tending the Hearth of Digestive Fire

Tending the Hearth of Digestive Fire

Learning from the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda, this workshop explores the principles of the fire element and how it appears in the physiological functions of digestion and metabolism. A person’s digestive ability is described in Ayurveda as agni or digestive fire and closely relates to the doshic constitutions—vata, pitta and kapha. The quality of one’s agni directly supports, influences and manipulates dosha and consciousness. In essence, digestion sheds light on our relationship to Ahankara or identity with self. The stronger the digestion, the clearer perception of self; permitting the body and mind to function together and communicate.

Having a strong digestive fire goes hand in hand in with identity and a sense of purpose-filled way of existing in the world. When person’s identity is clear, their digestion is strong. When their digestion is strong, misguided cravings occur less and intuition surrounding what is needed to properly support the body and mind through food comes with greater ease.

In this workshop we will introduce the four primary states of digestive strength according to Ayurveda and explore how the six tastes influence digestion and thus an individual’s mental, emotional and physical state according to their unique constitution. Exploring the symptoms, seasonal influences, causes as well as the effects on the physical, mental and emotional body, we’ll uncover practices to hone the fire to awaken digestive intelligence, align with doshic constitution and elevate toward highest sense of purpose and identity.

Emma is honored to offer Courting Chai with Sacred Spices and Tending the Hearth of Digestive Fire.
