Cedar Bloom Tea Cabin Resident + Work Trade Opportunity

We’re looking for the next resident of our beloved Tea Cabin at Cedar Bloom — a unique one-bedroom cabin and work-trade opportunity for someone who feels aligned with the land, our community, and the work of helping Cedar Bloom thrive.

We would especially love to find someone already connected to the Spirit Weavers community, or someone who is genuinely interested in becoming more involved with Cedar Bloom, our camping season, retreats, gatherings, and events.

The Tea Cabin will be available October 1st, 2026. This is a 6 month agreement with opportunity for longer stay.

The Tea Cabin

The Tea Cabin is a cozy, rustic one-bedroom home tucked into the heart of Cedar Bloom, with a beautiful back deck overlooking the Illinois River and garden space for someone who would like to grow food, flowers, or herbs.

The cabin includes a vintage gas stove with oven, shower + bathtub, indoor composting toilet, and a stand-alone heater. The primary heat source during the colder months is the wood-burning fireplace. Firewood is available on the land, but the resident is responsible for splitting, processing, and managing their own firewood. This needs to be done on personal time and is not included in the 18 weekly work-trade hours.

There is no traditional air conditioning, but fans are provided for the warmer summer months.

This is rustic, rural living on a beautiful piece of shared land, so we’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys this kind of lifestyle and is comfortable being somewhat self-sufficient.

Living at Cedar Bloom

Cedar Bloom is a shared 100-acre property and home to a small community of people.

From approximately November–May, a family with a young baby lives in the Main House. Our family returns to Cedar Bloom approximately May–October and lives in the Main House during that time. There is also another long-term resident living in a separate cabin on the lower portion of the property. Spring, Summer and Fall the land is bustling with short- term work traders, and campers.

We are fortunate to have wonderful neighbors surrounding Cedar Bloom, many of whom are longtime friends and friends of the Spirit Weavers community.

While the Tea Cabin itself is your private home, Cedar Bloom is an active property with campers, retreats, events, staff, friends, family, and community moving through seasonally. We’re looking for someone who appreciates both having their own space and being part of the larger rhythm of the land.

June is an especially important consideration. Spirit Weavers Gathering takes place at Cedar Bloom throughout the month, and the outdoor area surrounding the Tea Cabin becomes part of our Tea House. During this time, the resident will need to be comfortable sharing the outdoor space around their home with the gathering and having considerably more activity nearby.

The rest of the year has a much quieter rhythm, with our busiest camping and event season generally occurring during the warmer months.

The Work Trade

Housing is provided in exchange for approximately 18 hours of work per week supporting Cedar Bloom.

The role will be a combination of hospitality, camping operations, event support, and general care of the property. Depending on the season and what is happening on the land, responsibilities may include:

• Helping with camper and guest needs
• Preparing and resetting accommodations between guests
• Cleaning and maintaining shared guest spaces
• Camp Store support and restocking
• Keeping the community kitchen and common areas organized
• Laundry and linens
• Light groundskeeping and property upkeep
• Helping prepare for retreats, weddings, gatherings, and other events
• Event setup and breakdown
• Receiving deliveries and helping keep supplies organized
• Noticing things that need attention and communicating with the Cedar Bloom team
• General hospitality and helping guests feel welcomed and cared for
• Other seasonal Cedar Bloom projects based on your skills and the needs of the land

Some weeks and seasons are much busier than others, so flexibility is an important part of this role.

There may also be opportunities for additional paid work when Cedar Bloom needs help beyond the agreed-upon 18 work-trade hours.

More than anything, we’re looking for someone who is responsible, communicative, self-directed, community-minded, comfortable with rural living, and genuinely excited to care for Cedar Bloom.

This is more than simply a place to live. We’re looking for someone who wants to have a relationship with the land and become a trusted part of the Cedar Bloom community.
