19 Dec Morena Pez
Morena started to study ceramics about 10 years ago in Argentina, where she is from. Her Mentor was Patricia Dominguez, a great potter and anthropologist. For almost two years, Morena visited Patricia at her home. There, through Ancestral techniques she learned to mold and fired clay. The experience was to replicate Archeological pieces, so she was always immersed in ancestral art being guided and inspired by them. Ancestral cultures from Abya Yala AKA America (Both Continents)
These two years were extremely important for Morena’s life. She was visiting her Mentor Patricia, at her home, spending a whole day together and therefore, Patricia was teaching Morena more than just clay work. She learned about Gardening, motherhood, and about music & life.
Once Patricia moved to another town, Morena worked with Camila Zampatti, a potter and anthropologist as well. She was also at Patricia’s mentor classes, and for a few years, Morena and Camila worked together, Camila being a great Inspiration in Morena’s work..
At that time, “AKBAL Ceramics ” was born.
Moving to the States, Motherhood, and more travels, took Morena away from the ceramics for some time and a couple of years ago she returned with deep commitment.
Based in Native Iroquois territory, known as Western New York, Morena creates AKBAL FOLK CERAMICS.
Morena Pez will be sharing Ancestral ways to work Clay.
