24 Dec Earthenware Pottery
Shaping Earth & Fire: Earthenware Pottery.
Pottery is an ancient art, intrinsically tied to the land, inspiring our belonging to it as we shape the things we need up from the ground. For this very reason, using local clays is profoundly meaningful. It slows down our “production” mindset and allows us to tune into the impressive geological narrative we are apart of.
We are the earth – shaped by our choices, becoming vessels that can hold our deepest prayers and memories. Clay is a powerful medium for intuitive exploration of the soul, because it grounds us to the material world as we face the transformative fires of life.
On the first day of classes, we will meet for both morning and afternoon sessions to build and decorate wild clay pottery, as well as dive into the magic of clay; what it is, where to forage it, and how to refine and test it. On Sunday, we will meet early, bringing all of the pieces made on Friday to the open fire to transform them from clay to ceramic. The firing is a ceremonial process that fortifies our prayers and connects us to the elements. We will open up the pit on Sunday afternoon.
Earthenware Pottery will be lead by Hosanna White.
