02 Jan Earth Pigment Watercolors
Create your own watercolor kit to take home, entirely made from earth pigments and natural binders. This course will cover the techniques of creating watercolor paint, starting from raw earth (rock, soil, pigment) and finishing with a travel kit you can use to make art anywhere. Participants will learn the following skills:
– Ethical pigment foraging
-Safely breaking up raw rocks into powder,
-Transforming powder into paint pigment,
-Grinding pigment into watercolor paint
-Using natural materials as “binders” to preserve the colors
– How to create a color palette for your watercolor kit
Participants will leave the class with a complete, earth-based watercolor painting kit that they can use to paint at home. Although this course covers some basic technique for watercolor painting, we will not focus on artwork creation during this workshop. Rather, we will be learning how to make our own art supplies using ancestral techniques and connect to the spirit of the earth present in the materials. Those who are interested in improving their painting techniques are encourage to join me for “Devotional Yoni Painting” in which we will use earth pigment watercolors to create a sacred ode to our Yonis.
