Botanical Bundle Dyeing : An Introduction to the Plant Dye Rainbow.
A natural dye class where one can learn all the elements of bundle dyeing to successfully use the skill at home on any natural fiber. Participants will be guided through dyeing their own 22″x22″ 100% silk scarf while learning: what dyes, how to identify and harvest dyes, recognizing & storing plants/food waste for dye, mordanting fabric, an explanation of natural fibers, applying the dye, bundling techniques, finishing methods and so much more. There will be space for questions and deeper dives into the plants themselves. The silks we create can be used as scarves, hair wraps, bandanas, tarot card holders, swaddles, & so much more!
Bundle dyeing is a great way to start or nourish your natural dye journey. This technique is forgiving, great for covering up stains, up-cycling old garments and giving them a new life with items you have at home! We can establish a rainbow of colors x patterns using plants, flowers, barks, herbs, minerals, & food waste.
