May Salem is an Aklanon / Pinay creative born in the Philippines and the co-owner and designer at Native Sol , where she creates unique handmade clothing and jewelry with the emphasis on sustainability, specialty textiles, culture, intentions, story telling , and lifestyle. Early inspiration for Native Sol as a lifestyle brand was based on designer May Salem’s family healing arts tradition of Hilot and natural fiber muses like Abaca ( native to the Philippines ) and Pina fibers from her birthplace , Aklan ( PI).
Currently, May works with various mediums based on mixing found & upcycled objects, dead stock & vintage fabrics with new materials. May also draws inspiration from Ancestral Art and mythology of the Philippines and traditional art of the world and creates contemporary one of a kind pieces. .
