The Magic of Printmaking

The Magic of Printmaking

Printmaking has historically been a powerful art form in times of political unrest and injustice by
creating accessible, reproducible, and visually impactful images that disseminate political messages, foster community identity, and mobilize movements.

In this class we will be exploring the medium of printmaking as a form of artistic expression as well as a tool for spellcasting our intentions into the collective. Each participant will learn the basics of linocut print making and will have an opportunity to carve their very own linocut stamp infused with their intention for the collective. We will then print our images onto prayer flags, clothing, tote bags, etc. We will each string one of our prints onto a magical set of prayer flags infused with intention and prayers for our collective, which will be left as an offering to the land at Cedar Bloom.

Participants will leave with their very own hand-carved linocut block print, an understanding of how to make and print more of their own, and several prints of their own (and their sisters if they choose to trade).

Stephanie Jean will be sharing The Magic of Printmaking.
