31 Dec Garba Dance Alchemy
For centuries, Gujaratis (those from the northwestern Indian state of Gujarat) have circled the center, dancing in concentric circles in honor of the Goddess, clapping and twirling as they dance the steps of the Indian folk dance of garba. Originating from the Sanskrit word garb meaning womb, garba is a folk dance layered in philosophy and connected to fertility and divine procreative energy.
Experience the power this dance form has to connect us back to our body, inner light, and wisdom in this movement and mindfulness class. Garba Dance Alchemy with Gujarati folk dancer and somatic practitioner Heena Patel brings together the social practice of garba, its spiritual roots, and meditation.
Garba Dance Alchemy: Circling the Center will be taught by Heena Patel.
