15 Jan When I Die
Hi I’m Tonya! I have been working with death and grief for 22 years. It is part of my lineage, and I proudly and humbly holds this precious work. This gift was passed on to me from two generations of women in my family.
For me, preparing for your death the way you prepare for a birth is a precious beautiful privilege. We give so much energy to planning out the perfect life, careful to envision and prepare for each important phase, and, often, do not give the same time and care to our death plan.
In the wake of this global pandemic, it has become clear to me that those of us who have been colonized by western thought could greatly benefit from changing our narrative around death.
It’s time to bring it back home, to a place of celebration and joyful anticipation. Let’s normalize this vision and pivot away from fear and shame. Together we will create a beautiful vision and plan: a final act of love for ourselves and those who will grieve us.
