19 Dec Tule Mat Weaving
We will be weaving Tule Mats. Tule is a large reed like plant that grows in wetland areas. It has been harvested and woven to make mats since time immemorial. Tule is one of the most cherished plants in the Cayuse tribe. It has been used for a wide range of things from drying racks for our first foods like roots and berries to shelter for our lodges, and the list goes on. These mats are used in all of our ceremonies. In this class I will share the importance of Tule for us as Native people, how it was used in the past and how it still sustains us today. Come weave with me as we take part in this ancient connection.
Tule Mat Weaving will be shared by Brosnan Jaishri Spencer.
