The Ancestral Art of Printmaking

The Ancestral Art of Printmaking

Printmaking is a constellation of artmaking techniques that have been practiced for thousands of years. It is a tool for adornment and creativity, a method of abstraction, and a radically accessible way to distribute imagery and information to The People. In this class, we will learn about the different expressions and histories of this potent medium. We will carve relief prints and print them on textiles and paper, touching on the ancestral stories of these materials. Participants will leave this offering with the creations they printed on – an altar cloth, paper, or upcycled garment, as well as a foundation of understanding to continue incorporating the magic of print into their lives going forth.

Katey Rissi will be teaching The Ancestral Art of Printmaking and Making Art with Earth-Based Materials.
