Taira Restar

Taira Restar, MA, RSMT, is a somatic movement therapist, body-based empowerment coach and director of Emerald Heart Forest School, where she guides children,  parents and community to embrace wild nature and to access their own wise wild nature.

For over 30 years, Taira has facilitated workshops and retreats using a body-based expressive arts approach. She teaches that our bodies are wild nature.  Many of her workshops have been held in and with nature, including the high desert of Santa Fe, an old growth forest in Mount Fuji, Alpine lakes in Switzerland and a black sand beach near Bali’s sacred volcano. She has guest taught at universities in Istanbul, Tokyo, and Seoul and at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Taira’s favorite place to work and live is in her own home place–an oak and bay laurel forest on the coast of northern California. Her neighbors include black-tailed deer, bobcats, acorn woodpeckers, stinging nettles and towering firs. She has been married for over 25 years to her beloved and is a mother and grandmother. She invites you to follow her on Instagram @ourforestlife and to learn more about Emerald Heart Forest School.
