13 Jan Opening Space: Directional Embodiment + Sound Healing
Since the beginning of Spirit Weavers Gathering we have started initiated our first day Opening the Directions in flow with our bodies. This year we will travel through prayers, asanas, and the directions on a guided visualization of Andean Cosmology. We will align our Asanas with Crystal Bowls intended to open and vibrate with the chakras individually from base to crown. Maria is honored to share a potent experience to bless our Gatherings travels, alongside Sound Healer Jacqueline DeSantis and her blessed frequencies. The class will also begin and end in Sacred Icaros.
Maria has been honored to have taught Yoga for each Spirit Weavers and has been curating the Yoga village since our third year. Her journey began with the sacred body at a young age through figure skating, competitive diving, and 110m Hurdles. She has always been drawn to challenging the body and its relation to time and space. In 2002 she was diagnosed with Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, as well as several autoimmune deficiencies and this experience led her to Yoga in 2003 as well as navigating varying modes of holistic and energetic healing. This experience ultimately connected her to her Peruvian spiritual ancestry in order to draw intuitive stability. She is a 200 RYT and has been teaching Yoga for 9 years. She is also an interdisciplinary folk, social, and performance artist and her classes are always a reflection of her art and social practice. For 5 years she hosted Yoga in The Park in Kansas City, MO which installed amongst the sculpture garden each week. She draws the majority of her inspiration from comparing varying cultural modes of the spiritual and ritual realm, as well as a deep love for understanding body chemistry. Her practice resonates most when relating all beings to our underlying elements that connect us to Pachamama.
Jaclyn has always enjoyed creating sacred space and healing ceremonies for loved ones and friends, and believes strongly in the powers of focused intention, prayer and meditation, especially when channeled through sound.
Born to a musician father, and discovering an underground, experimental music movement when she was 13 years old that involved very large sound systems and deep, vibratory bass, much of her creative inspiration has been shaped by experiences with music and nature. She lived abroad for some time working as a professional DJ. Her approach to music, like spirituality, has been mostly intuitive.
Jaclyn has found pearls of wisdom and truths along her journey from a variety of traditions and unexpected places; From working with plant medicines, to taking intentional walks in nature, to singing joiks or hymns gifted from spirit, Jaclyn strives to walk the beauty path. She resonates deeply with Vipassana meditation and has been practicing since her first 10-day sit in 2005. Jaclyn is also a certified Ashtanga Yoga teacher.
Jaclyn works as a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and educator, specializing in birds of prey, at a non-profit organization based in Ojai, California. She also creates art and wares, inspired by Spirit, all of creation, and all things creative. Her and her husband Ari enjoy backpacking, wild food foraging, and convening with nature as often as possible to align themselves with her rhythms.
