The Waning Moon Years

Discovering joy in experiencing the waning years of our lives is a paradigm shift that artist, feminist, age disrupter, & menopause-friendly advocate “Crone of Arc” (aka Melissa Barron) would like to investigate with you. Ageism is one more cog in the intersectional feminism wheel that negatively affects womxn & ultimately humanity. In order to dismantle the oppressive external & internal fears of being labeled – “OLD LADY” – we have to cast our age acceptance nets wider than our ingrained biases & societal constraints. Our eggs may be time-dated but our fecundity & procreative abilities are not our only worth.

We’ll examine women’s health, sexuality, & reproductive rights and how their narrow definitions harm all stages of womxnity. Melissa will also interview artist, activist, & historian, Michelle Browder, the driving force behind the “Mothers of Gynecology Monument” which honors Anarcha, Lucy, & Betsey – enslaved women from plantations in & around Montgomery, Alabama – who, with neither consent nor anesthesia, were experimented on by Dr. J. Marion Sims in the 1840s. It’s fundamental to our healing to shine a light on historical injustices & the ongoing racial disparities in the healthcare industry today. Body sovereignty rights for “all” includes EVERYONE.
