21 Dec Making Art with Earth-Based Materials

Using earth-based materials to create artwork can be a powerful way to connect with your bioregion, thread together artmaking with earth reverence, and orient to art making in a process-based way. It was only recently that the creation of the materials used to make art was separated from the artmaking process. This class is designed to re-incorporate materials making into an artmaking practice. It is a buffet of different ways art materials can be made from materials sourced from nature as well as reclaimed from waste. It is part discussion on how to shift thinking towards DIY materials, part creating DIY materials on the spot. We will create nature-made drawing and painting supplies together, and then create small works on handmade paper.
