Certified Herbalist Ifarike Ajoke born Jen Elyse has created the most fruitful online herbal platform for POC and especially for WOC. She comes from a lineage of Indigenous enslaved people only three generations prior and has maintained the work of the ancestors. In her lineage Afro-Indigenous medicine and healing has been passed on through the generations and remains an important part of resiliency outside of the Mother land. Jen Elyse was born in the Midwest and her grandparents grew up on farms where they grew their own food, harvested coals, fetched water from their well, and slaughtered their own animals. Her Great grandfathers were also pig farmers in the south, and sharecroppers from Halls, Tennessee. Jen Elyse uses Afro-Indigenous remedies to heal and remain healthy. With a Bachelors of Science Degree in Alternative Medicine with one of the best non-profit schools, Everglades University, she has found her calling in teaching natural medicine and making necessary medicine. Jen Elyse is a Yoruba Priestess (initiate), doula, organic farmer, & yoni steam facilitator. She has solely lived and worked on organic farms since 2013 and has applied her life skills to that of a teaching platform to empower communities of BBIPOC folks looking to reclaim their indigenous connection to land. She teaches herbalism from a Decolonizing perspective & actively weaves indigenous voices into all of her teachings. Her approach to learning and deepening connections with plants is through the ancestors and nature as taught by her African and indigenous mentors.
