04 Jan Jahnia Mariposa
Jahnia is grateful to be returning to Spirit Weavers to teach for her third year. Raised in the concrete jungle of the Metropolitian area of DC, she has since rediscovered her innate and natural connection and love for all things natural. After several years of being a social and environmental activist in the city, to experiencing life through traveling, organic farming, and herbal medicine, she discovered the world of earth skills. She was first introduced to primitive skills through the Tracker School, where Jahnia lived with her partner for a year in a earth dwelling that they built themselves, which was transformational. She has since continued her educational journey to become more immersed into ancestral skills. She started going to primitive skills gatherings in 2008, and by 2012 she was invited to start teaching. In 2013 she and her partner started a school, Earthbound Skills, in their small city of Chico, CA. Since then, the school has expanded, and she now directs and teaches classes regularly for home-schooled children and public school children, as well as adults through workshops on various skills. One of the many skills that she fell in love with is weaving. Already a lover of plants, weaving introduced a whole new relationship to our earth allies. Weaving baskets and hats has been a beloved pastime of hers. Here at Spirit Weavers, Jahnia will be introducing a new style of hat she hasn’t yet taught here, a sun visor twined together with cattail, tule, and other natural wildcrafted materials.
Jahnia Mariposa will be sharing Weaving a Sun Visor.
