Instructor Application

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in sharing your offerings at the upcoming Spirit Weavers Gathering.  We are looking to curate a range of instructors and teachings that are in alignment with the vision of the Gathering.  For the 11th annual 2024 Gathering, our intention is to return to our roots and original vision of Spirit Weavers Gathering. This original vision was one of sharing hard skills and crafts, all with the intention and viewpoint of these skills being shared in a ceremonial and sacred way.

Over the last decade, Spirit Weavers has become known for its profound ceremonial and life changing offerings,  and as a place where deep transformational work was taking place. The classes offered over the years have ranged widely from craft and skillsharing to more ceremony, ritual, and spirituality based classes.

We are grateful for the whole spectrum of experiences and classes that have been shared at Spirit Weavers. After a decade of gathering, we’ve learned about the capacity and nature of our shared gathering container. We envision the gathering as a place to come together to learn new tools, dip your toes in with new skills, meet people, and connect over skillshare.  Through hands-on craft, we can connect to the land and to each other in a grounded way, making space for the deeper ceremonial work to continue outside the gathering container.

There are a handful of ceremonies that have been a part of the heart of Spirit Weavers from the beginning, and these will continue. This year for the 2024 gathering, our intention is to call in more hard skills and traditional crafts offered by makers and artisans in our workshops and class offerings.

It’s important to us that we are offering a range of different workshops and teachings that all encourage and uplift our lives and souls and each class is chosen in hopes it will serve our community in a good way.

Here are some of the specific classes and skills we are calling in for this year:

basket weaving
fiber arts
traditional foods & nourishment
hide tanning
spoon carving
wood working
basic tool & carpentry knowledge
knot tying
natural dying
weaving
survival and outdoor skills
animal processing
herbalism and plant identification

The classes we select represent skills that may be missing from a modern woman’s education and life experience, but in cultures of the past, represented basic human skills for ensuring the survival of the body and the soul. Fermenting foods, weaving and dying fabrics, singing songs together as a community, the making of plant medicines,  these were common knowledge and part of the simple pleasures of a life lived in beauty and balance.

We look for those who have cultivated their spirit, practice, and a passion to share their wisdom and teachings. These inspiring beings have begun to grow their own roots through years of studies with various teachers and/or mentors and are now open to pass along their craft or skill.

If you have knowledge, specific skills, and wisdom from your lineage and personal journey that you are passionate about sharing, we invite you to bring your offering to our community.

We are gathering together to share our skills and wisdom with other women in hopes of empowering and inspiring one another. These skills are ones that may have changed our lives, and are not ours to hold onto, but learned and given permission to pass forward. May these teachings and offerings create a ripple effect of empowerment and growth for all.

You may, through the generosity of the teachings you share, connect someone with a new skill that becomes a lifelong passion. Our joy comes from helping others find their path.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

  • We are co-creating a container together. Please read about the gathering and make sure our vision and intentions fully resonate with you before applying. As an instructor, you are a vital part of our collective web and therefor commit to our shared intentions.
  • Sharing with Spirit Weavers is a commitment!  We ask that if you are chosen as an instructor at the gathering that you are committed 100%.  We have contracts that we will send along once you are chosen to teach so please make sure you are a strong YES before applying.
  • You are expected to attend the instructor meeting and all morning announcements around the fire each day.  As part of our communal village, these meetings are important and necessary.  As an Instructor, you are committing to showing up for the community, yourself and your students through your presence in this way.
  • Instructors will need to arrive to the gathering before 1pm on Wednesday June 12th for Sun session and Wed June 19th for the Moon session.  If you apply and are chosen to teach both sessions, please plan on being present the entire length of the sessions from June 12th- the 24th of June.  If you cannot commit to these time frames, it may not be the right time to share with us.
  • If you have several classes in mind that you would like to offer, please add them all to one application.  All classes must be a minimum of 2.5 hours but at least 3 hours per class session is preferred.
  • Once again, please understand that sharing at the gathering is a commitment and we ask that you meet all deadlines over the next 6 months.  This includes reading all emails and meeting all requests for submitting fees, information and forms that are shared before the gathering. The two most important being the Empowerment and Allyship guides which you will receive when chosen.
  • Please know we have a zero tolerance policy for classes that may fall under cultural appropriation. We take this into consideration when reviewing applications and will ask you to detail the lineage of your offering.
  • We are always seeking to expand in our inclusion efforts and with our application process is a prayer for our community to widen and new folks to join to support a more richly diverse community. To make sure the gathering includes a diverse group of women, we encourage all walks of life to apply.
  • As an instructor, you will need to be able to hold your offering on your own, as we cannot accommodate assistants for all classes and offerings. If your workshop or class is co-led collaboratively with another instructor, you will both need to submit an application with the class description. We can only accommodate a small number of co-led classes so we encourage instructors to apply on their own.

FULL TIME INSTRUCTOR:

You have demonstrated your amazing teaching gifts and the value of your offerings. You will be asked to teach 12 hours during the gathering (4 class times), and will receive a small travel stipend, all meals, and our deep gratitude!  Full time positions are available to returning instructors only.

PART TIME INSTRUCTOR:

You have demonstrated your amazing teaching gifts and the value of your offerings. You will be asked to teach 6 hours (2 class times) during the gathering, and receive all meals, entry to all other classes, and our deep gratitude!  We ask that chosen part-time teachers pay a half-priced ticket of $333 due by Jan 1st.  Part time instructors do not receive a travel stipend.  This position allows you to teach and also take part in many of the classes and activities throughout the gathering.  Part-time instructor positions are given to first time instructors as well as returning instructors.

YOGA, MEDITATION & MOVEMENT:

Because our Yoga & Movement team is quite small and we generally receive an abundance of applications for these spaces, we have decided to curate our 2024 yoga & movement offerings based on solid instructors we have had from years past.  We will not be taking applications for Yoga, Movement & Meditation this year.  Thank you for understanding.

We receive hundreds of applications and often many of them are multiple offers of a similar class. We have also chosen many of the same classes and teachers year after year, and this year may be calling in a range of new offerings that haven’t yet been shared at Spirit Weavers.

We understand that everyone has their own unique story and song and we wish that they all could be shared in our short time together. We have just 60 positions to fill per session, and usually receive hundreds of applications each year.  Often times, we receive multiple applications for the same or similar class. We have also chosen many of the same classes and teachers year after year, and this year may be calling in a range of new offerings that haven’t yet been shared at Spirit Weavers.

We do our best to choose the instructor whose classes are most in alignment with the current SW vision.  Thank you for taking the time to apply and offer your teachings. Regardless of our choice this year, we deeply appreciate what you bring to the web of life.

  • As you navigate through the application, please be mindful and honest with your responses. We are co-creating a gathering where there is a dynamic and diverse group of instructors holding space for an equally diverse and dynamic group of beings. As you navigate through the form fields, please do not use your return or enter button as these will submit the form before you are ready. Instead use the tab button or your mouse to navigate to and from each field. After you submit your application, you will be redirected to a Thank You page.
