Elsie Lopez

Elsie Lopez is a plant medium, ethnobotanist, writer, poet, educator, and water-bearer (which makes concrete self-definition elusive, thankfully). She has been studying and practicing for 15+ years in the realm of the loaded and coded deep earth — the occult and natural. Her practice takes form, in part, as Gold Water Alchemy – an herbal, pedagogical, artistic, and land-based project that is the vehicle through which she channels much of her work with plants, words, the elements, the stars, and other such spirited entities.

The venture that informs some of her present experience is Plant Vibrations – a collaborative undertaking focused on making music with plants and the expansive earth. In this endeavor, Elsie contributes as the plant medium who writes out the plants, animals, and other natural elements which are to be channeled through the songs. This goes alongside her practice of writing Haiku and other musical poetry in observation of and attention to the sounds, sights, scents, feels, and impressions when present with Earth.

Some of her other well-known offerings include Herbascopes and Florascopes, seasonal horoscope installations which draw inspiration from bioregional plant research and study. In this, herbs and flowers are the signs. Forthcoming projects include two art and writing series, and eventually a book. Oh, and there is more… so much more. Dreams of a living library are guiding the way.

Elsie Lopez will be sharing Plant Vibrations: Botanical Sounds, Future Medicine.
