10 Dec Drop-Spindle Fiber Spinning
Our ancestors have been spinning for thousands of years, with materials that are all around us – in the stalks of plants, and the fur of animals, even the cocoons of insects. Spinning is a process of transforming raw fibers into strong and elegant threads, from which there are limitless possibilities of what we may create. As we work with our hands and spindles to transform fibers, we also work with our stories – spinning tales of transformation. Together we will spin, share, and be creating a collaborative woven piece with our first spun threads.
This is a 3 hour class, where we will familiarize and fondle many fibers, learn technique, and get down to practice and the inevitable spinning of stories together as sisters. If you have fibers you’d like to spin, or your own drop spindle, bring them. I will have sheep’s wool and other fiber samples to work with, and handmade spindles to borrow or to purchase. Materials Donation for fiber is optional, Spindles for purchase range from $12-30
Drop-Spindle Fiber Spinning will be shared by Shannon Pritchard
