Core Survival Basics

In this three hour course we’ll discuss a person’s five basic needs if they should find themselves stranded in the wilderness and in need of help: Signaling, Personal Protection (clothing and equipment, shelter, and fire), Sustenance (water and food), Travel Techniques, and Health. Students will learn concepts and practice a few basic skills to help them respond effectively if something should go wrong while they are out playing and exploring the outback. How to design a simple lightweight survival kit, knife sharpening basics, water purification method pros and cons, a couple of basic knots, emergency shelter construction, insulation principles, and signaling for rescue are just a few of the topics covered in this information and story rich class.
