Chosen Family: Rituals for Connection, Community and Practicing Belonging
Many queer folks are familiar with the concept of chosen family–relationships that are often developed outside our families of origin. In this current moment, the possibilities for human and more than human connection simultaneously grow and seem unattainable as folks navigate systemic oppression, disconnection from the planet and ancestral wisdom, and and grapple with lived and shared traumas. Loneliness, isolation, and unbelonging pervade our communities and the ways in which we relate to one another. During this workshop, we’ll generate rituals for community building, finding connection with ancestors and transcestors, and practice generative communication. We’ll draw on the legacies and frameworks of deep listening, story circling, non-violent communication, mycelial interdependence, and other plant wisdom to vision the possibilities for healing, transformative relationships and community.
